Teacher of the Year is a 2014 independent comedy film starring Matt Letscher.[1]
Plot
Surrounded by the eccentric faculty of Truman High School, Mitch Carter wins the California Teacher of the Year award and immediately receives a tempting offer that may force him to leave his job.[2]
Production
The film is shot in a mock documentary format. In fact, one of the teachers makes a reference to "This is Spinal Tap," one of the most influential films in the mockumentary format.
Reception
While some critics lauded the film's premise of a pretentious teacher being "exposed" and berated by his fellow teachers in a faux documentary style, others felt the film's direction lacked development and its focus on the absurdity of modern-day high school curriculum undercut its central themes.
