The Tauro Fútbol Club is a professional soccer club based in the district of Pedregal east of Panama City, Panama. It was founded 22 of September of 1984 and participates in the Panamanian League of Soccer from 1988. Its founder Giancarlo Gronchi was fan to the Juventus and for that reason the colors and the uniform black and white. He is one of the team with more titles in the LPF with a total of thirteen titles between 1989 and 2017.

Their traditional rival is Plaza Amador and they have been rivals since the LPF (ANAPROF) was founded in 1988. It is the club with which it contests the so-called "National Classic" in Panama.

History

In 1984 the employer of Italian origin Giancarlo Gronchi decides to create an internal soccer league in his company which was the Teneria tauro and from here arises the idea of having a soccer team to participate in the league of industrial companies of the time then to Playing in the tournament of foreign colonies residing in the country (ADECOPA), and then participating in the Panamanian District League, from its founding on September 22, 1984, to 1988.

It was just that year when, along with six other teams, the taurinos became pioneers by founding the National Association Pro Football (ANAPROF), and play a national championship. That would be the basis for the real birth of Panamanian football, which at that time painted little in the regional panorama and which, two decades later, is one of the lighthouses of the Central American area.

Black and white striped dress, in honor of Juventus, favorite team of Gronchi, the set was placed in the places of vanguard of the championship from the first edition. In fact, the first in the history of the tournament was marked by striker Carlos Maldonado, in front of the C.D. Plaza Amador, who would become the archrival of Taurus in the Panamanian classic.

Thus, the albinegros did not take long to obtain its first title, that arrived in 1989 of the hand of the legendary Uruguayan technician Miguel Angel Mansilla, that maintained during many years the control of the team. The second star arrived in 1991, and an absolute dominance was expected in the years to come. However, for five long seasons the "Toros of Pedregal" could not raise a trophy.

Finally, in the season 1996-1997 broke the curse of the hand of Patricio Guevara, author of the goal with which the bullfights broke the drought when imposing itself to the AFC Euro Kickers. A year later the team would repeat the feat before Deportivo Árabe Unido, with both Luis Plúa. And in the 1999-2000 season he would add a new star, who even knew better because it was before the archrival C.D. Plaza Amador, with two of one of the best Panamanian players of all time, Víctor René Mendieta.

For 2003 the Colombian Gonzalo Soto would be twice champion in Apertura and Clausura achieving the great championship per year. For the Clausura 2006 would be achieved the title directed by the emblematic ex player Ruben Guevara who only directed the end after the retirement of the German technician Thomas Kempe. Then in 2007 he would get the ninth in the hands of the historic albinegro coach, Mansilla who would return to achieve his fifth bullfighting title.

They would spend more than 3 years to see the 10th that came from another emblematic player, Juan Carlos Cubillas managed to beat San Francisco in his debut season as coach in the Apertura 2010. For the season of Clausura 2012 Sergio "Checho" Angulo won the title. And for the Apertura 2013, Rolando Palma becomes the fourth former bullfighter (Poyatos, Guevara and Cubillas) to raise both player and coach after a streak of 10 consecutive victories in 62 days, surpassing the 9 victories of Juan Carlos Cubillas In the Opening 2010.

Club facts

Rivalries

Tauro and Plaza Amador have been continuous rivals since ANAPROF started in 1988. They're both from Panama City itself, but do not play in the same stadium. The rivalry is referred to as "El Clásico" in Panama.

New Shield

Taurus redesigns his image

Tauro FC, of the Panamanian Football League, presents a new shield, under a modern design, not so saturated, and has had a very good reception.

The current champions of the LPF, will not have what was their great symbol for years, and is the face of the bull, however, within the modern design, is molded the head of a bull, in addition to the name of the team in the part higher.

The opening of this new face was announced by Tauro FC in recent days, and to know a bit about how this decision came, we talked with Ronald Gutierrez, Tauro FC Sport Manager.

Gutierrez said that in principle there was a meeting that held the league, putting the idea on the table, where a team, an advertising and marketing company presented the idea of modernizing its shield, a proposal that was rejected, however, the idea Was something that caught the attention of Gutiérrez and Luz Echevers to get in touch with those who had made that proposal, to see if it could achieve the renewal of the shield of the Taurus. "We found it interesting, we got in touch with them, they presented us with a proposal that we liked very much," said Gutierrez.

But that proposal brought significant changes, especially giving up what they were accustomed to. "The proposal was presented to the board, it created a small shock, obviously for the club's older members," Gutiérrez explained. "It was difficult, but Tauro has a very open directive that consenses all decisions, and in the end everyone wants the best for the club. They were the most reluctant to change, but the majority decided that we should take the step, and thank God he had an acceptance. "Gutiérrez described.

The truth is that it was not a design that presented the league, but the contact they had through that company to which they rejected a proposal they made to another club, and given this proposal accepted by the Tauro FC, happen to Have a new image that offers opportunities in terms of marketing, because as Gutiérrez responded, this important redesign will also help the marketing plans ahead, not only with the new shirt, or with the caps shown in that Final won, but also with clothes for women, divers, among other items and more.
