Tanay Pant (born 28 September 1995) is an Indian author,[1] speaker, innovator,[2] hacker, and tech enthusiast. He is best known for his work on various books on computer science, open source contributions and his talks at technology conferences.

He writes articles on political issues at Voices of Youth.[3] He also writes for a number of websites like SitePoint[4] and Tuts+[5] where he shares tips and tricks about web development as well his opinions on different products. He has been listed in the about:credits of the Firefox web browser for his contributions to the different open source projects of the Mozilla Foundation.

Early life

Tanay Pant was born in Lucknow and grew up in New Delhi, India. He completed his schooling from Bal Bhawan Public School, New Delhi. He received his undergraduate degree in IT engineering from College of Technology, Pantnagar in 2017. In the second year of his college, he digitally published Code Zer0 to spread awareness about cyber security and hacker culture. He published his first book at the age of 20 with Packt.

Career

Tanay started volunteering for the open source community of Mozilla in 2013.[6] He was also an official representative[7] of Mozilla. The inspirational story of his success and journey in the open source community was published by Opensource.com.[8] He also founded Stock Wolf, a global virtual stock trading platform that aimed to impart practical education about stocks and markets. This platform acquired more than 100 colleges[9] and players from about 15 countries.[10]

His work on Melissa, a voice controlled virtual assistant was widely appreciated by the tech community. He open sourced Melissa and its various components on GitHub[11] and wrote a book on how to develop such intelligent systems.[12] He was interviewed by FossBytes[13] and Dev Diner[14] where he answered questions about his experience with developing Melissa as well as some industry concerns. His software was also named as one of the top open source alternatives to Amazon Echo by FossBytes.[13]
