Tamer Hosny (Arabic: تامر حسني; born 16 August 1977) is an Egyptian singer, actor, composer, director and songwriter. Hosny first came to attention, when he appeared on mix tapes with other Egyptian artists such as Alaa Mahmoud. He launched his solo career with the 2006 album Hob, becoming a successful singer of romantic music and earning the nickname "Star of Generation" from his fans.[1][2]

Early life

Tamer Hosny was born in Cairo to an Egyptian father and a Syrian mother. In absence of his father Hosny Sherif Abbas, Tamer Hosny grew up with an interest in football and played the sport for five years.[3]

In 2004, he released his second studio album with Ahamd Albanna as a solo artist. Titled Hob, the album featured the single "Arrab Habibi".

Enayyah Bethebbak

Enayyah Bethebbak (My Eyes Love You) is his second full-length studio album. Released at the end of 2005, the album was produced by FreeMusic.

Ya Bent El-Eih

Ya Bent El-Eih is his third full-length studio album. Released in March 2007 by FreeMusic, the album featured thirteen songs. Nine of them were stolen and leaked on the internet almost a week before it was released to the market.

Arrab Kaman

Hosny released his fourth studio album Arrab Kaman on June 24, 2008. This album has 9 hits composed and written by Tamer Hosny: "Matwasnesh", "Arab Kaman", "Askoty", "Aftkarly", "Ya taabany", "Albi el habak", "Esma wa nasseb", "Heya de", "Roh alby" and "Asaab ahsas". Four songs from Arrab Kaman were used in his movie Captin Hima.

ElGana Fi Byotna

ElGana Fi Byotna is his fifth full-length studio album of Islamic and Ramadan-themed songs, released in September 2007 in the same year of Arrab Kaman. He filmed one music video from this album, "Ana Mesh aref atghyar". The album includes 13 tracks; he wrote and composed all 13 songs.

Ha'eesh Hayaty

In 2009 Hosny released his sixth studio album, Ha'esh Hayaty. This was his first studio album recorded under Mohsen Gaber's Alam El Phan label. Ha'esh Hayaty included Hosny's first English-language song, "Come Back to Me". From this album he filmed one music video, Ta'aba Koll El Nas. Yasser Sami, the director of Omar & Salma also directed the music video. The second part includes two songs from the album, "Khontek Embareh" and "Bagher aleeha".

Ikhtart Sah

Ikhtart Sah is his seventh studio album released in 2010. This is the second studio album recorded under Mohsen Gaber's Alam El Phan. It was commercially successful and included "Sweet Melody", Hosny's second English song. Tamer Hosny filmed music videos for three of the album's songs, "Saheet ala sotha", "Taarafy" and "Law hakoun gher leek".

Elly Gai Ahla

Elly Gai Ahla (2011) is the 8th studio album by Tamer Hosny. This is the third studio album recorded under Mohsen Gaber's Alam El Phan. From this album Hosny had four music videos: "Elly Gai Ahla" directed by Yasser Sami, "Dayman Ma'ak", "Matsaa'lnesh" featuring Moroccan singer Bassma Boussil and "Aklemha" directed by Hossam L. Hosseiny.

Bahebak Enta

Bahebak Enta (2013) is the 9th studio album by Tamer Hosny. It was released on the 6th of March.

180 Daraga

180 Daraga (2014) is the 10th studio album by Tamer Hosny. It was released on the 25th of August and is the first album recorded under Rotana. From this album, he had two music videos "Welcome to the Life" and "180 Daraga" which are directed by Yasser Sami.

"Omry Ibtada"

Omry Ibtada (2016) is the 11th studio album by Tamer Hosny. Second album to be recorded under Rotana. Released on the 23rd of June.


Directing career

Tamer Hosny started his first directorial experience in 2010 by directing his music video "Saheet ala sotha". Tamer had always wanted to be a director; he had dreamed of making his own music video.[4]

Film career

Hosny starred in the 2003 Egyptian film, Halet Hob (A State of Love).[5]

The film Sayed El Atefy[6] was released in 2005, and featured two songs, "Koll Marra" and "Nour Einy"; both were performed within the film.

In 2008, he released Captin Hima,[7] a social comedy about a young man who is crazy about football.

In May 2009, he released Omar & Salma 2,[8] a sequel to the romance comedy.

In 2010, he released Noor Eieny starring Menna Shalabi and Amr Youssef. The movie is about a young man who falls in love with a blind girl, after a their relationship takes a different turn, he realizes his best friend is also in love with her. [9]

In 2012 he released "Omar & Salma 3", the third sequel to the Omar & Salma movies.[10] Tamer said on many occasions that he was not satisfied by the outcome of the movie, although it was a box office success. In a recent interview on Set El Hosn program he addmitted that saying "I'm not happy with how the movie turned out, although many people love it and it was a box office success. I don't blame anyone else for that, I take responsibility for it. We had to make major plot changes due to financial reasons." [11]

After 3 years away from the movie industry, he released Ahwak alongside Ghada Adel, a romantic comedy about a young doctor who falls in love with a divorced woman after going out with her daughter.[12] The movie was a success at the box office with total revenue of 22 million pounds.[13]

In 2017, he released Tesbah ala kher, a comedy drama about a wealthy entrepreneur who suffers from depression and hallucinations, a programmer in his company approaches him and tells him about her program which makes people live in their own dreams, he becomes fascinated by the idea of getting away from his life and later becomes consumed by being attached to his dreams. He later finds out a revelation that changes the whole story for him and the people around him.[14] Falcon films - the company responsible for distributing the movie in the Arab world - released an official statement saying that the movie has topped the box office in the Arab world.[15] [16] Tamer promoted for the movie through a song collaboration with Lebanese singer Elissa titled "Men wara el shababik".

Drama

During Ramadan 2011, Hosny starred in the television drama Adam. Directed by Mohammad Sami, the drama also featured Dina Fouad, Ahmad Zaher and Mai Izz.and this series achieved Big Success and high views on YouTube and win best series in 2011 in many votes[17] His next film Omar and Salma 3 is scheduled to release in November during the Eid al-Adha holiday.[18]

During two years Tamer Hosny had discovered more than 20 new talents in lyric writing and composing, over 5 new singers, more than 10 new talented actors, and Mohamed Sami as a Drama and Cinema director "Director of his series Adam".[19]

"Bokra-Tomorrow" charity single

Tamer sang Bokra "Tomorrow (A Better You, Better Me)" a charity single that was released on 11/11/2011 at 11:11PM, along with Shakira, Rim Banna, Akon, Diana Karazon, Marwan Khoury, Latifa, Souad Massi, Hani Mitwassi, Saber El Roba3i, Kathem El Saher, Wa3ed, Sherine and other Arab Artists. The single will distribute the proceeds of its donations to various organisations, institutions and charities with arts and culture programs. The eight-minute song was written by Majida Al-Roumi, and produced by Quincy Jones and RedOne. More information about the song can be found on official website of the song.

Duet song with Shaggy

Tamer Hosny has recorded a new duet song with Shaggy, named "Smile". The song, written and composed by Tamer Hosny, will be distributed all over the world. The music video has been released at the beginning of 2012; the music video was shot in New York City, and it has achieved huge success; it has achieved more than one million views in only 3 days on YouTube, and for this exceptional growth rate, YouTube awarded the music video a trending medal.[20]

Duet song with Snoop Dogg

Tamer Hosny recorded a new duet song with Snoop Dogg, named Si L Sayed. It was released in 2013. Tamer Hosny and Snoop Dogg shot the music video in Los Angeles .

New music collaboration with Pitbull and Akon

Tamer Hosny has recorded a new trio song with the International Singers Pitbull and Akon titled Arabian Night. The song was released in Tamer's new international album One Little World; and the music video was filmed in the US on May 2013. Tamer Hosny has also recorded "welcome to the Life" with the international Singer beside the trio song named.

by this international Collaborations Tamer Hosny will be the 1st singer in Middle East to have all this collaborations with International singers.

Tamer decided to make his Egyptian / Arab identity present in these collaborations, So he made Snoop Dogg appear in their music video wearing Egyptian traditional cloths known as Jellabiya and also wrote Snoop's name in Arabic on the car appearing in the video.[21]

Moreover, He made Akon sing the pre-chorus in their song "Welcome to the life" in Arabic and used eastern oriental percussion instruments [like tabla] in the video.[22]

"Men wara el shababik" featuring Elissa (Lebanese singer)

Tamer and Elissa collaborated in 2017 for the first time on this song as a part of promoting for Tamer's movie Tesbah ala kher.

Stage and live performances

Tamer is known for his unique concerts and live performances. He's played many shows in Egypt along with many Arab countries including Morocco, Tunisia, Lebanon, Dubai and Jordan in which he's always had enormous crowds attending them.

One of his most iconic concerts was in Marina in the north coast of Egypt in 2009 where he was not only limited to singing but he was part of the dancing performances throughout the concert and also played multiple instruments like the piano and the electric guitar. He also introduced multiple remixes and new live versions of his songs to the audience. The show was also distinct for the creative use of fireworks and lighting effects.

The following year, He played a similar show in Marina again, one that many fans consider to be his best concert.

Tamer said in many press interviews that his dream had always been to change the appearance of the stage in Egypt and the Arab world. He didn't want his live shows to be only about his singing, but also dancing and using a creative appearance to the stage using fireworks and visual effects.

To this day, Tamer still performs at many different countries and still uses creative factors to keep his concerts unique.

Because of Tamer's famous charismatic stage presence and creativity, his fans now call him "King of the stage". In an interview with Sherihan Abu Al Hassan on her program Set EL Hosn, Tamer said that he doesn't pay much attention to the titles given to him by the fans like "King of Generation" although he does appreciate the "king of the stage" title due to his efforts to improve the stage appearance in Egypt. "I'm no king, I'm not a fan of titles at all, I only appreciate the fact that my efforts to improve Egypt's stage appearance are acknowledged by the fans" he said, "My favorite title is just being called an Egyptian Arab artist when performing abroad."[23]

Personal life

Tamer Hosny married "Star Academy" Moroccan singer Bassma Boussil in 2012. They have 2 daughters.

He is an endorser of the soft drink Pepsi.[24] He was also the "first Arab celebrity" to advertise the Police brand of sunglasses.[25]

TCL Chinese Theatre handprint

On August 9, 2017 Tamer Hosny made a promotion footprint ceremony at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, California. He became the first Egyptian / Arab artist to make that.[26][27]
