Professional career
Charlton received an invitation to the NFL combine and completed all required combine and positional drills. He attended Michigan's Pro Day and opted to attempt to beat his combine numbers in the 40, 20, 10-yard dash. He was able to slightly cut times in all three while also running positional drills for team scouts and representatives. NFL draft experts and analysts projected him to be a first round pick.[10] He was ranked the sixth best edge rusher in the draft by Sports Illustrated, sixth best defensive end by ESPN, and was ranked the seventh best edge rusher by Pro Football Focus.[11][12][13]
