T. T. V. is nephew of V. K. Sasikala.[1]

Career

Dinakaran was a Member of the Parliament of India representing Tamil Nadu in the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian Parliament. He was also a Lok Sabha MP, representing Periyakulam from 1999 to 2004,[2] and was runner-up in the seat as the 2004 general election when he was defeated by J. M. Aaron Rashid.

Controversy

On 17 April 2017, Delhi police registered a case against Dhinakaran regarding an allegation of attempting to bribe the Election Commission of India (ECI) for the AIADMK's election symbol.[3] It is claimed that a middle-man named Sukesh Chandrasekhar, who was raided and arrested in Delhi and was found with 1.3 crores, which was allegedly meant as a bribe for the ECI in exchange for the symbol. Dhinakaran has been charged with conspiracy and corruption in the case.[4] In a recent development, the Tis Hazari Special Court granted him bail[5] on the ground that the police had failed to identify the public official allegedly bribed, accepting the argument made by his lawyer Mr. Aman Lekhi.[6]
