T.C. Rao (born September 18, 1940) is an Indian mineral process scientist and researcher who established a graduate program in Mineral Engineering at Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad. He has been Adviser to HZL;Hutti Gold Mines;Hindustan Copper; many coal washeries;Hindustan Copper;MSPL;Bhajrang Steel; KNK Corporation. Apart being a Visiting Scientist to TISCO R&D Centre. Presently is an Adviser to TEGA'S India,CDE Asia ;PMC Projects of Adani Group.;and Eriez India Ltd.

Education

Dr. T.C. Rao received B.Sc.,(Hons.) in Geology from Andhra University, Waltair, India in the year 1959, M.Sc. in Ore Dressing from the same university in the year 1960. M.Sc. course in Ore Dressing was started in Andhra University under the guidance of Prof. Calamur Mahadevan in the year 1954 and at that time this was the only special course in ore dressing/mineral processing in India.[1] He did his Ph.D in Mineral Engineering from the University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia in the year 1965,under the guidance of Professor Alaban J Lynch. .

Career

From 1967-77 he was Lecturer and then became Assistant Professor at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur.[2] From 1977-1989 he was Head of the Dept. of Fuel & Mineral Eng. and subsequently Dean of Academic and Research at Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad. From 1989 – .2000 he was director of the Regional Research Laboratory (CSIR), Bhopal, India, now Advanced Minerals and Process Research Institute [3]

Subsequently he has been a consultant to the UNDP-GOI Net Work Program, to Rajasthan State Mines & Minerals Ltd., advisor to Environment protection Coordination Organization, Bhopal and visiting scientist to M/s TATA STEEL Ltd., R&D, Jamshedpur, India.

Honours and awards

He is the Central Govt. Nominee to the Executive Board and General Council, Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad.,[7] |Non official Director, Madhya Pradesh State Mining Corporation Ltd, Madhya Pradesh Govt. He is a member of the Standing Scientific Advisory Committees of Dept. of Mines and Dept. of Coal, Govt. of India. the Advisory Committee, National Science & Technology Development Board (NSTEDB), the Project Monitoring Committee, Ministry of Mines, Govt. of India and of Hindustan Zinc Ltd., Udaipur.

He is a Council Member of the Indian Institute of Metals and the Mining, Geological and Metallurgical Institute of India. He is an Executive Council Member of Indian Institute of Mineral Engineering.[8] He was honoured as a fellow of Indian National Academy of Engineers in Coal and Mineral Processing Specialization.[9]

He is a Non official Director of the Bharat Aluminium Company, Govt. of India, and President of the Federation of Engineering Institutions of South & Central Asia (FEISCA).

He has been Regional Editor of the International Journal of Minerals Engineering, and a member of the editorial boards of the International Journal of Mineral Processing, the International Journal of Coal Preparation , the Transactions of the Mining. Geological & Metallurgical Institute of India and of the Indian Institute of Metals.
