The Swiss Bowl is the annual national championship game in the sport of American football in Switzerland, first held in 1986. It is contested by the two best teams of the Nationalliga A.
The Zurich Renegades and Calanda Broncos are the record winners of the Swiss Bowl, with seven successful participations. The Calanda Broncos hold the record for consecutive titles, five between 2009 and 2013 and are also the current champions.[1]
The most-played Swiss Bowl game is Calanda Broncos versus Basel Gladiators, having been played six times, with Calanda winning the first five encounters of the two teams. The Basel Gladiators are also the most unsuccessful team, having lost six of its seven Swiss Bowl appearances.[1]
The last Swiss Bowl game, Swiss Bowl XXXII, was held at Chur Ringstrasse Stadium on the 8th July 2017 at 6pm where the #1 seed Calanda Broncos (9-1) hosted the #2 seed Basel Gladiators (6-4) in their third meeting of the season, which the Broncos won 42-6 (21-0 HT). This game was preceded by the Nationaliga B Junior (U19) final, between Luzern Lions and Thun Tigers, which kicked off at 2pm.
