Swissôtel Nankai Osaka (スイスホテル南海大阪) is a hotel situated directly above Namba Station on the Nankai Railway lines in Chūō-ku, Osaka, Japan. The hotel is owned by Nankai Electric Railway Co., Ltd., and managed by the Switzerland-based hotel chain Swissôtel Hotels & Resorts.

History

The hotel originally opened in March 1990, as Nankai South Tower Hotel Osaka (南海サウスタワーホテル大阪). The building stands 36 floors (with three more floors below ground), and 147 metres (482 ft) high.[1]

In 2003, Raffles Hotels and Resorts signed a deal with Nankai Electric Railway to operate the Nankai South Tower Hotel. As a result of this deal, the property's name was changed to Swissôtel Nankai Osaka, and it became the first Swissôtel Hotels and Resorts property in Japan.[2]

In 2016, AccorHotels acquired FRHI Hotels & Resorts, Swissôtel Nankai Osaka become the upper and luxury tier property of AccorHotels in Japan.

Renovations

In early 2010, Swissôtel Nankai Osaka announced it would undergo extensive renovations beginning in summer 2010, with completion projected for the end of 2012. One of the most noticeable changes made to the hotel during this renovation was the update of many guest rooms. Followed in summer 2016, Swissôtel Nankai Osaka renovated 32F - 34F which include all their Swiss Executive Room and Suites. New room type such as Swiss Executive room Triple is offer for up to 3 beds in the same room. Renovation project in 2016 also include their biggest ballroom, Naniwa Ballroom.[3]

The updates incorporated a blend of traditional Japanese elements and Swiss-themed décor.

Facilities

The Swissôtel Nankai Osaka has 546 guest rooms, including Suites and Swiss Executive Rooms. It offers eight restaurants and bars, and 19 banquet and meeting rooms.[4]
