Swami Nithyananda is a Hindu spiritual leader. He is the founder of Nithyananda Dhyanapeetam, which is based in India but has devotees on a broader international scale.[1]

He is believed by his disciples to be an avatar; a reincarnated deity. His channel mainly aims to share his philosophical and theological views, but also includes other topics like meditation. He and his followers claim to be able to perform and document phenomena like ESP and materialisation, which they document on YouTube and other social media.[2] These performances by his disciples are alleged to include making objects like coconuts move with the use of telekinetic powers or reading without the use of the eyes.

Skeptics, and critics, point to failures to replicate certain claims, like levitation. Indian news media reported on his failure to levitate a participating journalist.[3] There are also issues of conflicts between his followers and local communities over allegations of lewd remarks and ashrams encroaching on public property.[4] At the same time, locals have attacked and vandalised his properties.[5]
