Stuart Ford (entertainment executive)
Stuart Ford is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of IM Global, which launched in 2007 and has since risen to become one of Hollywood's leading independent production, financing, international sales and distribution companies. The company is based in Los Angeles and has offices in New York, London, Beijing, Shanghai, Mumbai, Munich and Mexico City. Stuart Ford is based in Los Angeles.
In 2015 Ford and IM Global were jointly awarded the annual Achievement in International Film Award by Variety. [1] Stuart Ford is a member of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences. [2]
Early career
Prior to launching IM Global, Ford was a long serving executive at Miramax Films in New York where, in various executive capacities he was involved in the acquisition and/or production of numerous Academy Award recognized films including Shakespeare in Love, Chicago, The Cider House Rules, Chocolat, Gangs Of New York, Amelie. During this period The Hollywood Reporter listed Ford as one of the top executives in Hollywood under the age of 35.
Born in the UK, Ford was educated at the Liverpool Blue Coat School, and later obtained both a BA and an MA in Law from St. Edmund Hall, Oxford University.
IM Global
The prolific independent studio operates one of the world’s leading international film, television and music production, sales and distribution platforms, controlling a library of more than 600 films which have collectively grossed more than $6 billion in worldwide box office.
As a company exclusively under Ford’s stewardship, IM Global has produced, financed and/or handled international sales on more than 100 independent feature films which have collectively grossed more than US$2 billion in global box office including commercial powerhouses such as “Paranormal Activity”, “Insidious”, “Sinister”, “Walking With Dinosaurs” and “A Haunted House” and critical successes such as Tom Ford’s “A Single Man”, “Lee Daniels’ The Butler”, Richard Linklater’s “Before Midnight”, Steven Knight’s “Locke” and Don Cheadle’s “Miles Ahead”. Mel Gibson’s “Hacksaw Ridge” and Martin Scorsese’s “Silence”, which Ford executive produced, collectively received seven Academy Award nominations in 2017 with the former winning two Oscars.
In June 2016, Los Angeles and Shanghai based Tang Media Partners (“TMP”) assumed a controlling ownership position in IM Global to help accelerate the company’s growth initiatives. Simultaneously, TMP arranged a new, expanded television production joint venture among IM Global, TMP, and Tencent Holdings. The IM Global television JV includes an innovative first-of-its-kind programming investment fund arranged by TMP.
The company is a prominent player in the Hispanic entertainment arena through its subsidiary Latin and Ibero-American sales division Mundial. The company also owns Valor Entertainment, a Los Angeles-based talent management business representing Latino actors, musicians, writers and directors.
In December, 2014 the company launched IM Global Music. IM Global Music is a full-service music platform that exploits music publishing rights, releases soundtrack albums and develops music driven film and television content.
In addition, Ford is Chairman of Beijing-based Go Global, an international facing public relations and marketing company dedicated to promoting Chinese cinema, entertainment companies and talent around the world.
Other activities
Ford is a regular speaker, panelist and broadcaster around the globe on the subjects of film distribution and financing, the evolution of digital technologies within the entertainment sector and on the continuing cultural and technological issues influencing the global film industry. In late 2010 the UK's Guardian newspaper listed Ford as one of the 50 most influential individuals in global cinema.[3] Stuart Ford's IM Global was the 2015 recipient of the Variety Award for Achievement in International Film.[4] As an individual Ford has produced or executive produced more than 25 Hollywood features.[5]
Personal
Ford lives in Los Angeles with his wife and two young sons.[6]
