Steven Specht is an American attorney, author, and former political candidate.[2][3][4]
Background
Specht is a graduate of the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Journalism (2005). He, then, enlisted in the United States Air Force and completed training for the Airborne Cryptologic Linguist Career Field with a specialization in Pashto. During his time in the service, he was deployed for a total of nine months and flew over 700 hours and 67 missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.[5]
After departing the USAF in 2010, he contracted as a linguist in Afghanistan for one year for the United States Marine Corps, during which he completed a Master of Arts in International Relations from American Military University.[6] Upon his return to the US he released his book, Notes from Afghanistan, which focused primarily on his teaching of English classes for Afghan natives while off-duty and his observations of the war.
In May 2016, he graduated with a Juris Doctorate from Florida State University College of Law.[7]
He is currently an Associate Attorney at a local law firm and resides in Pensacola, Florida.[8]
2016 Congressional Campaign
Specht was the Democratic candidate and party nominee in Florida's First Congressional District election in 2016.[9][10][11][12] The district is rated as a R +22 on the Cook Partisan Voting Index. The race garnered the best voting turnout in 22 years.
