Steven James Lerud (born October 13, 1984) is an American professional baseball catcher in the Texas Rangers organization. He attended to Galena High School.[1] He has played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Philadelphia Phillies.
Career
Lerud was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the third round of the 2003 MLB Draft. The Philadelphia Phillies promoted Lerud to the majors on August 24, 2012.[2] He appeared in 3 major league games in 2012, batting .200 in 10 at-bats.[3] He was dropped from the 40-man roster after the end of the season but signed a 2013 minor league contract with the Phillies' organization. He appeared in 6 major league games with the Phillies in 2013, going hitless in 5 at-bats.[3]
He signed a minor league deal with the Atlanta Braves on November 11, 2013 and received a non-roster invitation to Major League spring training.[4]
On January 12, 2015 Lerud signed a minor league deal with the Washington Nationals he was assigned to AAA Syracuse Chiefs the same day. On February 3, 2016, Lerud signed a minor league deal with the Seattle Mariners. Lerud will also receive an invite to spring training.[5] He was released by the Mariners in April.
On April 27, 2016, Lerud signed a minor league deal with the San Francisco Giants. He elected free agency on November 7, 2016.
On January 5, 2017, Lerud signed a minor league deal with the Texas Rangers with an invite to spring training.
