Steel Division: Normandy 44 is a real-time strategy video game developed by Eugen Systems and published by Paradox Interactive, set in World War II.[1][2]
Setting
The game takes place in Normandy, France during the Second World War. It depicts the battles fought between the Allies and Nazi Germany, as the Allies push out of their invasion beachheads following the Normandy landings. A wide variety of military forces are represented, including those of Canada, Germany, France, Poland, the United Kingdom, and the United States.[3]
Gameplay
Players take control of historical units, based on the divisions that fought during the fighting in Normandy, and then choose from a set of units before the start of a match. Once the game is underway, the player can call in units from the selected deck. The matches are sub-divided into three phases, with more powerful units only becoming available after a certain point in the game. Steel Division: Normandy 44 features three single player campaigns, and up to 10v10 online multiplayer battles.[4]
The game features 15 maps at launch.[5] However, the total number of playable maps are larger due to each one being able to scale in size depending on the number of players allocated. Certain maps include amphibious gameplay elements, in which specialist units can traverse both land and water thereby bypassing chokepoints and objectives such as bridges.
18 playable divisions are available at launch, divided equally between the Allies and Germany:[6]

Technical
As the entire Wargame series (Wargame: European Escalation (2012), Wargame: AirLand Battle (2013), Wargame: Red Dragon (2014)), Steel Division: Normandy 44 is based on Eugen Systems' IRISZOOM engine. But while the Wargame series is available for Linux, Macintosh and Windows, Steel Division: Normandy 44 is available for Microsoft Windows only.
While Wargame: Red Dragon required at least DirectX 9 (equivalent OpenGL 2.1) and 256 MiB of graphics memory, Steel Division: Normandy 44 requires at least DirectX 11 (equivalent OpenGL 4.5) and 1024 MiB of graphics memory.
