State-owned Enterprise of Indonesia
State-owned enterprises of Indonesia, locally known as Badan Usaha Milik Negara (BUMN) play an important role in the national economy. Their roles includes contributor for national economy growth, providing goods or services which are not covered by private company, employment provider, providing support guidance to small and medium businessess, and source of government revenue .[1]
The government takes control of the state corporations under one single ministry, the Ministry of State Owned Enterprises, which acts like the CEO of a holding company.
Type of BUMN
There are 3 type of State-owned enterprise in Indonesia, which are as follows:
- Perusahaan Jawatan (Perjan), whereas its operational cost is funded by national budget, its employees are civil servants and the company itself is part of government agency.
- Perusahaan Umum (Perum) or Public service company wholly owned by government. Its main purpose is to provide goods and/or services to public and allowed to pursue profits.
- Perusahaan Perseroan is BUMN which are Perseroan Terbatas (PT) or Limited liability company, this type of BUMN are more independent than Perum and its main goals is to generate profit and contribute to government revenue. This type of BUMN are easy to recognize, as they have suffix Persero on their names except for PT Pertamina and PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia Tbk.
