Stanmore railway station is located on the Main Suburban line, serving the Sydney suburb of Stanmore. It is served by Sydney Trains T2 Inner West & South line services.
History
Stanmore station opened in 1878.[1] The Main Suburban line through Stanmore was quadruplicated in 1892,[2] and sextuplicated in 1927 in association with electrification works.[3][4]
As part of the 1892 work, the northern side platform was converted to an island platform. The new most northern platform had a station building similar to the disused example at Petersham, this was demolished in 1926 as part of the sextuplication works.[4]
Up until the 1980s, a few morning peak services from the North Shore line called at platform 1 for the benefit of Newington College students.
