Stadium railway station is a station being constructed on the Armadale/Thornlie line in Perth, Western Australia. It is scheduled to open in 2017 to serve the new Perth Stadium.
History
The plans for the Perth Stadium included a dedicated railway station on the site of Belmont Park station. On 18 October 2013 Belmont Park station closed.[1][2]
The new railway station will have six platforms for trains direct to Joondalup, Fremantle, Armadale and Perth. Infrastructure in the project will include two overpasses over the railway lines. Sidings capable of holding 117 carriages will also be laid nearby on the Burswood Peninsula.[3]
In October 2014, three parties were shortlisted to bid for the construction of the station:[4][5]
The contract was awarded to Laing O'Rourke/AECOM in March 2015, with a targeted completion date of late 2017.[6]
In January 2015, a 1.4 kilometre section of the line between Goongoonup Bridge and Burswood station was moved closer to the Graham Farmer Freeway to facilitate construction of the station.[7] Construction of the station commenced in August 2015.[8]
Platforms and services
The platform layout planned for Stadium station will have six platform faces from three island platforms.[9] Trains headed towards Perth will not stop at Claisebrook or McIver stations.[10] Connecting from the Thornlie line will require a bus to Cannington station and then a train to Stadium station.[9]
