St. Stanislaus Kostka College, Salamanca, grew gradually after 1952 with the efforts of Jesuits to organize a parish in the Prosperity district of Salamanca, Spain. It now accommodates children from infant through secondary (ESO).
History
The school traces its history to the efforts of various Jesuits to build a church and school in the Prosperity area of Salamanca, beginning in 1952. The church was completed in 1957 and it became a parish church in 1968. A children's choir was a part of the parish effort from early on. Historical records of the development of the school are sparse, with more recorded on the early period under the rubric of "parish": a youth group and scout troop, classrooms moving around in scarce space. In 1984 the junior school is mentioned as raising funds for the NGO Manos Unidas. In 1995 St. Stanislaus Kostka College was in place. Ignatian ideals remain basic to the parish apostolate: prayer, discernment, openness to the most disadvantaged, presence and dialogue in the peripheries and new cultures.[1]
Activities
The Sports Club San Estanislao de Kostka was born in late 2002 as a consequence of the need for an autonomous entity, with its own legal personality and sufficient economic resources, to take charge of the ever more vigorous sports activity of the College. It manages, promotes, and coordinates the out-of-school sports activity of the school's students from ages 8 to 16, through high school. It welcomes students from other schools who care to join.[2][3]
The choir of the San Estanislao College of Kotska won the first Carols Contest organized by the Salamanca Culture and Knowledge Foundation and El Tormes Shopping Center. Six schools from Salamanca and Santa Marta de Tormes participated.[4][5][6]
The education of technologically savvy students is reflected in the students' activities, as they visit CGB Informática headquarters each year to learn the potential and good use of the new technologies.[7]
The ESO students have an annual workshop conducted by Entreculturas to sensitize them to the situation of refugees.[8]
