Southern California Institute of Law (SCIL) is a private law school with campuses in Santa Barbara and Ventura, California.[3] The two campuses are operated by Dean and president, Stanislaus Pulle.

History

Southern California Institute of Law Ventura and Santa Barbara campuses were founded by Stanislaus Pulle in 1986[4] .[5] Stanislaus Pulle received his law degree at England’s Kings College and attended Yale Law School.[6] The Institute was established as part-time evening only law school catered to working adults.[7] It prepares students for the study of law leading to a Juris Doctor degree in the context of a curriculum designed to inculcate the highest standards of legal ethics, the skills of modern legal research, and a broad-based knowledge of various legal subjects that include but are not limited to subjects tested on the California Bar Examination.[8]

Accreditation and Authority

The Southern California Institute of Law is accredited by the Committee of Bar Examiners of the State Bar of California to grant Juris Doctor Degrees. Students are eligible upon successful graduation to take the California Bar Examination.[9] Southern California Institute of Law also has California state approval by the California Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education to grant Bachelors of Science in Law and Certificates of Professional Paralegal Studies.[10]

Lawsuits

The Southern California Institute of Law sued the State Bar over requirements for schools to maintain a 40% percent bar passage rate over 5 years and that the State Bar had violated their 1st amendment right.[11] Stanislaus Pulle, the school's dean was quoted in an LA Times article citing "he thought the bar passage rate was generally a fair way to judge law schools. But he added that he believes the state bar's requirement was too rigid and would force schools to accept students who had a higher chance of passing the bar and ignore other types of students.".[12] The lawsuit was later dismissed, citing the First Amendment claim would be futile and was dismissed with prejudice.[13] SCIL filed an appeal in the 9th Circuit Court and the appeal was later affirmed as to the original US District court's decision.[14]

Tuition

Southern California Institute of Law has an annual tuition of approximately $7,850.[15][16] Students may enroll in a deferred payment.[17]
