Soma Sonic

Soma Sonic is a recording artist and production duo consisting of brothers Dominic Paterson and Francois Paterson from Canada. Their musical style blends elements of Lounge, Downtempo, House, Trip hop and Dub.^[1]

History

In 1999, their debut album Future, featuring vocal contributions from Katlin Kiss and Amanda Weiss, was originally released independently on their Subsonic Recordings label. It was briefly released in the U.S. on indie label Abstrakt Reality,^[2] and then re-released in 2000 on the Sonic Images label,^[3] owned by founding member of Tangerine Dream, Christopher Franke and distributed by Universal Music. The song Falling was featured in the Warner Bros. movie Get Carter starring Sylvester Stallone and also appeared on the audio soundtrack release.^[4]

In 2002, as "France & Dom" the brothers released Modernism on the Los Angeles-based Water Music Records label, featuring vocal contributions from Gretchen Lieberum. They have also appeared on many Water Music Records compilations.^[5] Also in 2002, as "Soma Sonic" the brothers scored their first feature film Rub & Tug.^[6] There was also a soundtrack release for Rub & Tug in 2003 on Bobby Dazzler Records.^[7]

In 2006 the brothers released Simplicity on their Subsonic Recordings label, featuring vocals by Lyon born, Geneva-based singer Christelle Pechin. Songs from this release have been featured in a number of feature films and television series such as Nine Lives, directed by Rodrigo García and Canadian television series ReGenesis.^[8] Also in 2006, as "Soma Sonic" the brothers scored their second feature film Push, directed by Dave Rodriguez and starring Chad Lindberg, Charlotte Ayanna, Chazz Palminteri and Michael Rapaport.^[9]

• The title song "Simplicity" from their most recent album "Simplicity" is featured in the television series Ringer episode "Let's Kill Bridget",^[10] in the independent feature film Lost Everything,^[11] in the made-for-TV movie Matters of Life and Dating,^[12] and in television series Painkiller Jane's season two episode "Ghost in the Machine".^[13]
• Their song "The Well" is featured in the television series Ringer episode "It's Easy to Cry When This Much Cash is Involved",^[14] in the independent feature film Lost Everything,^[15] in television series ReGenesis's season two episodes "Lethargica" ^[16] and "The Cocktail",^[17] and in the movie Push.^[18]
• Their song "Backslide" is featured in the television series Nikita (TV series) episode "High-Value Target" ^[19]
• Their songs "Bound", "Simplicity (instrumental)" and "Oxygen (electro instrumental)" were featured in the television series "Flashpoint"'s season three episode "I'd Do Anything".^[20]
• Their song "Life's Seasons" was featured in the television series "MVP"'s episode "The Code".^[21]
• Their song "Could it Be Real (remix)" was featured in the television series Ringer episode "I'm the Good Twin" ^[22] and "MVP"'s episode "Trades and Rumours".^[23]
• Their song "Memories (instrumental)" was featured in the television series "MVP"'s episode "Double Overtime".^[24]
• Their song "Could It Be Real" is featured in the independent feature film Lost Everything,^[25] in television series ReGenesis's season two episode "Massive Change",^[26] in feature film Niagara Motel,^[27] and in the made-for-TV movies Playing House (2006 film) ^[28] and Intelligence (Canadian TV series).^[29]
• Their song "Everything" has been featured in the made-for-TV movie Matters of Life and Dating ^[30] and television series ReGenesis's season two episode "Gene in a Bottle".^[31]
• Their song "Oxygen" has been featured television series The Jane Show's season two episode "A Jane in the Crowd".^[32]
• Their song "Memories" has been featured in the made-for-TV movie Murder in the Hamptons ^[33] and movie Nine Lives.^[34]
• The song "Falling" has been featured in the movie Get Carter.^[35]
