Sister 7
Sister 7 is an American rock band from Austin, Texas.
Singer Patrice Pike met guitarist Wayne Sutton at a street festival in Dallas, Texas. After a brief stint in Austin, Sutton returned to Plano, Texas, where, in 1991, the two formed a band and began writing and rehearsing. Originally called 'Little Sister', the band began playing in Dallas on stages such as Club Dada, but soon relocated to the more active musical scene of Austin. They quickly moved from being an opening band for local legends Soul Hat into a headlining role of their own, and remained popular in Austin and for many years.[1]
Their debut EP appeared in 1994, followed by a full-length and appearances on the H.O.R.D.E. Tour.[2] They released two further full-length studio albums and scored a hit with the song "Know What You Mean", which reached #21 on the Adult Top 40 charts and #76 on the Billboard Hot 100.[3] The group disbanded for 2 years in 2001, re-releasing their debut album and issuing a live album that same year.
Due to naming conflicts over the name 'Little Sister', a cover band from Boston threatened to bar them from playing in the State of Massachusetts unless the Texas Original jam band paid them $40,000, proving that they used the band name for only one month longer in 1992. With a new record deal on Arista Records in negotiations, they decided to change their name to Sister 7 and went on to achieve having two charting hits and creating a fan base in the United States and Western Europe. Currently original founders of the Texas based Little Sister Patrice Pike, Wayne Sutton and Darrell Phillips are based in Austin and play regionally in Sister 7 when their solo projects are off tour.
