Sint Maarten Heineken Regatta

The St. Maarten Heineken Regatta is a yacht race on the island of Sint Maarten, held every year. The Regatta is both named after its location and sponsor, the island of Sint Maarten and Heineken. Its slogan of 'Serious Fun' is intended to represent two sides of sailing in the Caribbean: legendary racing and parties, but the overall atmosphere is equally appealing.

History

In 1980 this event began with a modest 12 entries and has matured to include over 280 participants in 2008. With over 32 different nationalities present and approximately 3000 sailors gracing our shores, this event has grown to staggering proportions and annually improves its grandeur once again.

In 2015 the Regatta celebrated its 35th edition.[1] A great time to look back on where the Regatta began, and where the organization is right now. Achievement is to be a host for around 300 competitors and invite international media. However, the Regatta would not be possible without the selfless help of the volunteers, both locals as well as tourists who especially arrive for this event.
