Sinitta (born Sinitta Renay Malone) is an American-born singer who has lived in the United Kingdom for most of her life. In 1983, Sinitta released her debut single "Don't Break Me Into Little Pieces"; she however found fame in 1986 when she released her single "So Macho" which gave Sinitta her first UK Top 10 hit when the single charted at Number 5 and then the following week when the single climbed to Number 2.[5][6] "So Macho" continued its reign of the charts by remaining in the Top 5 for the subsequent five weeks and then only leaving the Top 35 three weeks later overall spending seventeen weeks on the charts.[7][8][9] The following year after a successful comeback with "So Macho" she released the first lead single of her upcoming debut album which ha been announced to be called "Sinitta!", the lead single was "Toy Boy" and the single reached Number 4 on the UK Charts a position on the charts it held for three consecutive weeks.[10][11][12] "Toy Boy" also charted across the rest of Europe with he single reaching Number 9 Germany,[13] Number 3 in Switzerland[14] and Number 4 in Finland; the single also reached the charts in the United States. As the second lead single of the album Sinitta related the song "GTO" which reached Number 15 on the charts;[15] overall the single spent seven weeks in the Top 40.[16] "GTO" also generated popularity in Spain as the single give Sinitta her first Top 3 hit charting at Number 3. Sinitta susbeuqtentely released her debut album "Sinitta!" which was launched with moderate success reaching Number 34 on the UK charts and spent twelve weeks in the Top 75.[17] The following year brought the releases of "Cross My Broken Heart" and "I Don't Believe In Miracles" which charted at Number 6 and Number 22 in the UK respectively. "Cross My Broken Heart" also achieved Sinitta her second Spanish success single charting at Number 12. The following year of 1989 saw the release of Sinitta's second album "Wicked", as the first lead single of the album Sinitta released the song "Right Back Where We Started From" debuting at Number 6 before it then climbed to Number 4 on the UK Charts holding its position at Number 4 for two weeks;[18][19] the song was highly successful and stayed within the Top 20 for seven weeks. "Right Back Where We Started From" also became Sinitta's highest charting single in Australia and New Zealand where it reached Number 7 and Number 2 respectively. Following this success two more lead singles of the album were released "Love on a Mountain Top" and "Love Me Down Easy".

Sinitta has also built a name for herself in the television industry having appeared in British Television Shows "Loose Women" (2007 - 2010), "The Xtra Factor" (2006 - 2016) and "This Morning" (2004 - 2013). Sinitta has also prominently featured in "The X Factor UK" as a guest mentor at the Judges' Houses stage having assisted Simon Cowell and also Louis Walsh; Sinitta's costumes on the show have become trademark for her and also a large part of her image.[20][21][22][23] Alongside these appearances Sinitta has appeared on several reality TV shows, during 2010 Sinitta was a contestant on "Dancing on Ice" although she was eliminated in Week 1.[24][25] In 2014 Sinitta appeared in the Channel Four series "The Jump" in which she was eliminated fourth.[26] Sinitta also took part in the ITV show "I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!" during 2011, she entered the jungle in Day 3 and was eliminated ten days later on Day 13.[27][28]

Sinitta's net worth in 2016 was estimated to be £7 million.[29]

Career

Early career

In 1981, Sinitta appeared in the film Shock Treatment, as Frankie, although Sinitta was credited as Sinitta Renet.[30][31] Sinitta continued her career by appearing in several West End productions most notably the first production of the Andrew Lloyd Webber play "Cats".[32][33] She also appeared later "Little Shop of Horrors".

1986 - 1988: Sinitta! and So Macho

In 1986, Sinitta released the single "So Macho" which debuted at 59 on the UK Charts;[34] the single remained rather low in the charts although in August 1986 "So Macho" reached Number 16 on the charts and then reached Number 5 the following week.[35][36] The subsequent week "So Macho" reached Number 2 in the UK scoring its highest position on the charts and also giving Sinitta her first Top 3 charting single.[37][38][39] "So Macho" spent the following six consecutive weeks with the Top 15 in the UK. Alongside this success in the UK "So Macho" reached the Top 20 Sweden, Australia and Austria. "So Macho" subsequently became the highest charting of Sinitta'"s entire career. Sinitta's second single "Feels Like the First Time" was far less commercially successful and also only charted at Number 45. In 1987, Sinitta released the first lead single of her upcoming debut album. The first lead single was "Toy Boy", the single debuted at Number 41 and later climbed to Number 4 on the UK Charts at which is successfully remained for three consecutive weeks.[40][41][42] For eight weeks the single remained in the Top 20. The track also reached Number 3 In Switzerland, whilst also reaching the Top 15 of Ireland, Belgium, Sweden, Finland and Germany. Sinitta then released the second lead single of the album called "GTO"; the single reached Number 15 on the UK Charts.[43] "GTO" also became Sinitta's first hit in Spain reaching Number 3. The track also reached Number 11 in Switzerland, Number 9 in Norway and Number 13 in Ireland. Sinitta later released her debut album "Sinitta!" performed moderately and only charted at Number 34 in the UK.[44] Alongside this album reached Number 69 in Australia. In 1988, Sinitta released "Cross My Broken Heart" from "Sinitta!" which reached Number 6 and Number 7 in the UK and Ireland respectively. The track also charted at Number 12 in Spain thus becoming her second Top 15 charting single in Spain. Sinitta then released the track the fourth track from Sinitta's debut album "I Don't Believe In Miracles" which reached Number 22 on the charts.

1989 - 1990: Wicked and Right Back Where We Started From

In 1989 Sinitta moved away from working directly with Stock Aitken Waterman, however she did continue to work with Pete Hammond, Phil Harding and Ian Curnow with PWL.[45] The second album was confirmed to be called "Wicked". The first lead single of the album was called "Right Back Where We Started From", the single debuted at Number 19 in the United Kingdom and later rose to Number 6 on the charts.[46][47] The following week the track successfully climbed to Number 4 in the UK, the single then held down this position for the subsequent week.[48][49] For the subsequent four weeks the single then remained within the Top 30. Alongside this "Right Back Where We Started From" charted across the rest of Europe notably reaching Number 7 in Finland and the Top 25 Denmark, Spain and Germany. "Right Back Where We Started From" also charted successfully in Oceania, reaching Number 7 in Australia and Number 2 in New Zealand thus becoming her highest charting single in both countries. In addition to this success the track managed to gained positions on three year end charts, reaching Number 45 in Australia, Number 38 in New Zealand and Number 49 in the UK.[50][51][52] Also as a follow up lead single Sinitta released "Love on a Mountain Top" which climbed to Number 20 on the UK Charts and Number 81 in Australia.[53] The final lead single of the album however was the least successful out of the three failing to chart at all. In 1990, Sinitta released the single "Hitchin' a Ride" which performed moderately charting at Number 20 in the UK and "Love and Affection" only charted at Number 62.

1992 - 1997: Shame Shame Shame and Naughty Naughty

In July 1992, "Shame Shame Shame" debuted at Number 31 on the UK Charts,[54] the single then peaked at 28.[55] The following year in April Sinitta released her single "The Supreme" which only reached Number 49 in the UK.[56] In 1995, Sinitta released a cover album called "Naughty Naughty" which was also the only album of Sinitta's to be released in Asia[57][58] She appeared on the cast recording album for What a Feeling, a live recording taken from the Apollo Playhouse Theatre, Edinburgh in May 1997. She replaced Irene Cara to tour with Sonia (also a former SAW artist) and Luke Goss (former Bros) in the rock and pop musicals concert, What a Feeling[59] in 1997.

2004 - 2016: The X Factor Era, Television and Judging

Sinitta made her premiere appearance on The X Factor in the first series during 2004 when she assisted Simon Cowell at the Judges Houses stage, at the judges houses stage Sinitta helped Cowell select his final three acts for the Live Show within the final three she helped Cowell to choose was eventual winner Steve Brookstein.[60][61] During 2005 Sinitta then helped Cowell one more this time choosing the final three groups, in 2006 Sinitta helped Cowell select Leona Lewis this becoming the second winner chosen by Cowell and Sinitta with Lewis becoming one of the most successful acts of the show.[62][63][64] In 2009 Sinitta returned to the show again for the Judges Houses stage and she then helped to choose Olly Murs. During 2007, Sinitta be came a judge on the ITV show "Grease Is the Word".[65][66][67] The next year of 2008 Sinitta joined the cast of the daytime ITV show "Loose Women" as a presenter.[68][69][70] The subsequent year in 2010 Sinitta then helped Cowell again where she chose One Direction who have thus become the biggest act to ever come out of the X Factor;[71][72][73][74] in 2011 however for the first time Sinitta assisted Louis Walsh rather than Cowell. In November 2011, Sinitta was confirmed to be taking part on the eleventh series of "I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here!" as one of the contestants and would be entering the jungle on Day 3.[75][76][77][78] She joined the jungle on Day 3 along with Pat Sharp.[79][80][81] Sinitta was the second contestant to be voted out of the jungle leaving the jungle on Day 13.[82][83][84] In 2012, Sinitta announced she would returning to music.[85] In 2013 Sinitta helped Walsh to select Nicholas McDonald who eventually finished second, and in the same year Sinitta performed the 1980s hit song "Take On Me" in Children in Need 2013.[86][87][88] In December 2013, Sinitta appeared on "Celebrity Come Dine with Me" alongside Danniella Westbrook, Louie Spence and Hugo Taylor.[89][90] During 2014 Sinitta was announced to be joining the cast of the new upcoming Channel 4 reality TV show "The Jump".[91][92] Sinitta was eliminated fourth overall placing seventh.[93][94][95][96] In 2014, Sinitta returned to her music career with her comeback single being "So Many Men, So Little Time".[97][98] Sinitta later performed her single at the London festival "Pride".[99][100][101] In 2014 Sinitta Sinitta returned to assist Simon Cowell again where she helped to choose Fleur East and Ben Haenow who came second and won the show respectively.[102][103][104] During 2009, Sinitta became one of the main presenters on "The Xtra Factor" on which she interviewed the contestants friends and family.[105] In 2011 Sinitta returned to the show during the live show stages as one of the presenters who visited the finalists' home towns, Sinitta's segment on the show became regular and carried on in to 2012 and subsequently 2013 and 2014. In 2016 Sinitta was announced to be the producer and also one of the lead presenters of the Xtra Factor and stated she had "revamped" the whole show.[106][107][108] In 2016, Sinitta appeared in the hit reality TV show "Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway" as a recurring character.[109][110][111] Alongside this during 2016 Sinitta became a series regular on the chat show "Up Late with Rylan";[112][113][114] Sinitta also made appearances on Celebrity Masterchef as a contestant although she was eliminated in Week 1.[115][116][117][118]

2017: Rumoured return to the X Factor

In 2017, Sinitta was rumoured to be returning to The X Factor UK.[119]

Personal life

In 1984, Sinitta began dating Syco founder and CEO Simon Cowell.[120][121][122][123] It was also reported that Sinitta had become pregnant with Cowell's baby in the 1980s, although this was not confirmed. However, in 2013 Sinitta confirmed the rumours stating "I did have an abortion" and also stated that Cowell "knew all about it";[124] Sinitta has also stated that the whole ordeal was "devastating" for Cowell and herself, also mentioning that she would never have hidden the abortion from Cowell.[125][126] Sinitta and Cowell have however even been described as "the world's most friendly exes".[127] Also in the 1980s, Sinitta dated Hollywood actor Brad Pitt for "two years";[128] alongside this, Sinitta has been reported to have been in contact with Pitt as recently as 2016.[129] Sinitta was also reported to have been "close friends" with English singer-songwriter George Michael.[130] Sinitta married Andy Willner in 2002 and in 2005 they planned to have children via a surrogate, although sadly the surrogate suffered a miscarriage whilst she was carrying twins for the couple.[131] Sinitta and Willner following the surrogacy miscarriage, numerous failed IVF implants and several miscarriages for Sinitta herself decided to adopt.[132][133][134][135][136] In 2010 Sinitta announced they were divorcing.[137] In 2011, Sinitta expressed her "sadness" over her failed attempt to adopt a third child.[138] During September 2016, Sinitta announced that she was in the process of adopting her third child.[139][140]

In April 2015, Sinitta claimed she was attacked by a reality TV star. Although it was not confirmed to whom she had been referring, it was confirmed that Sinitta would be "suing".[141] In September 2016, Sinitta and Ward appeared in court over the alleged assault at which Ward "denied the charge" of assault.[142][143][144] In February 2016, it was reports continued to come in that Sinitta had been "assaulted" by The Real Housewives of Cheshire star Dawn Ward;[145] it was also reported by the Metro that Sinitta has been "punched" by the TV star.[146][147][148] In June 2016, Ward was found formally guilty of the assault charges against Sinitta.[149][150][151]
