"Sing About Me, I'm Dying of Thirst" is a song by American hip hop recording artist Kendrick Lamar, from his major label debut studio album Good Kid, M.A.A.D City (2012). The song, which appears as the tenth track on the album, was released as an ordinary album track. However, it is one of Lamar's lengthier songs, clocking in at twelve minutes and three seconds. The song is actually split into two parts throughout the track, the first part notably titled "Sing About Me", which is about exactly seven minutes, and the second part notably titled "I'm Dying of Thirst", is approximately two minutes and fifty-seconds. There is a skit in between the two parts and another one right after the second section.

Critical reception

Teddy Craven of The Daily Campus, in a review for Lamar's fourth studio album Damn, compared "Sing About Me" to "Duckworth", saying both songs are "the high-points of their respective albums."[1] On the user review site Rate Your Music, the first part "Sing About Me" is the ninth highest rated hip hop song of all time, as well as the third highest rated hip hop song of the 2010s, following Danny Brown's "Ain't It Funny" and Kanye West's "Runaway".

Remixes

The song was sampled for American hip hop recording artist Hodgy Beats' second mixtape Dena Tape 2 (2015), on the song "Moneyball".[2] The song was also sampled by American rapper XV, for his mixtape March Madness Vol. 2: Sweet Sixteen (2014), on the song "The Learning Tree".[3]

Cover versions

The song's first part was covered by American jazz pianist Armen Nalbandian, for his album Alis Grave Nil (2014), on the song "Sing About Me".[4] The song's second part was covered for American jazz pianist Robert Glasper's album Covered (2015), on the song "I'm Dying of Thirst".[5]

Media appearances

The song was featured in the American television series Grey's Anatomy, in its 207th overall episode "Man on the Moon".
