Silvino Silvério Marques (23 March 1918 – 1 October 2013) was a Portuguese colonial administrator, a military general officer.[1][2]
Biography
He reveiced secondary studies in Lisbon and later attended at military prep schools in the city and a military engineer course at the Military School. He continued his military career and was promoted to a general.[1][2]
On 14 January 1954, he was official of the Miliary Order of Avis[3] and on 27 September 1958, he was elevated to a commander of the same order.[3]
He became governor of Cape Verde from 1958 to 1962,[4][5] and later Angola from 1962 to 1966.[6][7] He was administrator of the National Steel Industry from 1960 to 1970, interim director of Armed Engineers and 2nd Commander of the Military Region of Mozambique from 1971 to January 1973.[2]
During that time, he was grand-official of the Order of the Empire on November 3, 1963.[3] and later the Brazilian Military Order of Merit on October 21, 1969.
He was member of the High Overseas Council up to 1973, where he did not reconducted for disagreements for Marcelo Caetano on overseas politics posted in practice for that, which it was finished by the autonomous progressives of its overseas province.[2]
On December 1973, he was placed under the direction of instruction of the State Major of the Army. On May 1974, he was invited with general António da Spínola for going to take over as governor of Angola and remained again but only for a few months until the end of June for failing to guarantee instructions to the National Salvation Council.[2]
He was passed into a reserve in 1975.[2]
He published several books, in 2010,[8] he released Qual de Nós Terá Razão?, he also edited its preface.[9]
He was the brother of general Jaime Silvério Marques.
