Silvia Henriquez was born in San Salvador, El Salvador. She was a missionary for the LDS Church in the Central America Mission in the early 1960s. Later, she attended the University of Arizona, Brigham Young University, and the General Francisco Morazán Institute, where she studied mathematics. On September 7, 1966, she married Jeffry A. Prior to her call into the leadership of the Relief Society, Allred had served as a member of the general board of the church's Young Women organization.
