Siemens (Pakistan) Engineering Company Limited, is an engineering conglomerate and financial services corporation headquartered in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan.[2] It has multiple regional offices all over the country.

Active since 1947, Siemens Pakistan is one the largest provider of the engineering services and management in the country, with overseeing ongoing projects in healthcare, defence development, energy,[3] telecommunications, and computer expansion as well as heavy construction management.[4] When founded, Siemens Pakistan was originally focused on providing the network of communications but its role in energy sector grew since 1987.[5] In 2011–12, Siemens Engineering generated its profit margin to ~138.3 million in its investments in energy sector. Its original corporate programme is to provide engineering and technological solutions in energy, healthcare, infrastructure and construction industry.[6] In fiscal 2013, Siemens in Pakistan scored major successes in all four Sectors.

Energy Sector

The High Voltage (HV) substations business unit implements turnkey projects of up to 500kV, including air-insulated and gas-insulated solutions. It won substation contracts from Agha Khan Hospital, Agha Steel and JDW Sugar Mills in Pakistan as well as 220kv substations at Khulm and Pul E Alam in Afghanistan.

The Energy Service division has performed scheduled maintenance of turbines and generators for companies, including Kot Addu Power Co. Ltd. (KAPCO), Rousch Pakistan Power Ltd. (Rousch), Fauji Kabirwala Power Co. Ltd. (FKPCL) and Central Power Generation Co. Ltd. (CPGCL), which together contribute more than 1500 MW to the country’s national grid. The division is also executing a long-term contract with Rousch on a 450 MW power plant, which recently saw the successful life-time extension on two gas turbines and a steam turbine along with their generators. In addition, the business provides preventive maintenance solutions to compressor trains installed at the Sui, Sawan and Kandhkot compression facilities that are an integral part of the country’s gas supply network.

Siemens secured the largest compression renovation project from Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) for re-bundling of fourteen compressors installed at Sui Gas Field Compression Station. With its trained and skilled employees and advanced technology, the Energy Service Division is now preparing to extend its reach to the oil and gas sector. The sector is a major manufacturer of power and distribution transformers.

Healthcare Sector

This year, Siemens capitalized on its leading position in the field of advanced imaging systems with solutions such as Cath Lab, Single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT/CT) and Computed Tomography (CT) technology. The Sector secured orders for Pakistan’s first 16-slice SPECT/CT system for Shaukat Khanum Hospital Lahore, a 128-slice CT system for Gambat Institute of Medical Sciences, and Cardiac Cath lab machines for Aga Khan Hospital and Zia ud Din Hospital.

Industry Sector

Siemens Industry offered innovative and sustainable solutions to the country’s main industrial sectors during fiscal 2013. This included providing automation solutions for process control revamp at a BASF Chemicals plant, resulting in 99 percent availability; distillery automation for Shakarganj Mills Ltd, a leading manufacturer of food products; and process control for Mondelez International/Kraft Foods, one of the world’s largest snacks companies. In addition, the sector supplied solutions for the upgrade of Dewan Cement, installed the archiving and reporting system “Process Historian” and automation software for utilities as well as multi-vessel route filling controls for Unilever. Another major contract was the Asperbras project where Siemens supplied an engine control system for two plants in Guinea in West Africa for MAN Diesel Germany.

Key milestones for the Mechanical Drives business unit included contracts from Bandhi Sugar Mills, Alliance Sugar Mills and Chamber sugar mill; three bucket elevator’s gear unit orders from Bestway cement in addition to contracts from paper, fertilizer and feed mills. Siemens also secured complete geared motor orders from Chamber sugar mill and Crescent Steel.

Infrastructure & Cities Sector

The Low Medium Voltage (LMV) Division was successful in securing contracts from JDW Group for medium and low voltage switchgears including service and electrical works for their bagasse-based cogeneration plant at United & Ghotki Sugar Mills. Another major project was received from China State Construction & Engineering Company for the supply of around 40 medium voltage (MV) and 200. low voltage (LV) panels for Benazir Bhutto International Airport Islamabad Package III along with supervision services for installation, testing & commissioning. The Division also won a unique contract from Yunus Textiles involving supplies & supervision services along with synchronisation, load sharing & power management systems for their Power Houses & Utility networks. Besides, these projects, substantial orders were received for supply of more than 120. 11 kilovolt (kV) grid panels from the Water and Power Development Authority / Peshawar Electric Supply Company (WAPDA / PESCO) and 60 11kV grid panels from local utility Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC).

Smart Grid services acquired a major order related to the modification & extension of an existing substation at Karachi Nuclear Power Plant (KANUP). Additionally, various projects were executed for system protection and control units from Sukkur electrical power company (SEPCO), Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) and Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO).

The Siemens Pakistan Engineering Co. Ltd. was founded in 1953 as a private company, and in 1963 was reorganized as a public limited company. Siemens is actively involved in Pakistan’s university education and runs a three-year apprenticeship program at its facility in Karachi. In “Project Pakistan”, two leading engineering universities were provided with state-of-the-art automation labs.
