Shirak State University named after Mikael Nalbandian (Armenian Շիրակի Մ. Նալբանդյանի անվան պետական համալսարան) is a public university located in Gyumri, Shirak Province, Armenia.[2]

History

The university was founded as a pedagogical institute in 1934. During the first year of admission it engaged 16 lecturers and had around 100 students.[3] Its first rector was S. Movsisyan who enrolled best teachers from Gyumri and specialists from the capital city of Yerevan. At first it used to be a branch of Armenian State Pedagogical University, but since 1966 it has been an independent higher educational institution.

On December 2, 2016, the pedagogical institute of Gyumri was turned into an university foundation and renamed Shirak State University.[4]
