Shinya Shokudō (深夜食堂) also known in English as "Midnight Diner" is a Japanese manga series by Yarō Abe. The series is about a late night diner which is opened from midnight to dawn and the stories of its odd-ball patrons. It won the 55th Shogakukan Manga Award for general manga[1] and it was nominated for the 2nd Manga Taishō.[2] It was adapted into a 10-episode live-action television drama in 2009, followed by a second season in 2011, and a third season in 2014. In 2015, a live action film was released by director Joji Matsuoka starring Kaoru Kobayashi as The Master. In 2016 Netflix Japan produced an additional 10 episodes. In 2016 a 2nd feature length film was released.

The series has also been adapted into a Korean television series titled Late Night Restaurant in 2015;[3] and a Chinese television series Midnight Diner in 2017.[4]
