Shaunae Miller-Uibo (born 15 April 1994) is a Bahamian sprinter. In the 2016 Rio Olympics, Miller won a gold medal in the 400 metres event.
Education
Miller completed her high school education at St. Augustine's College in Nassau, Bahamas and attended the University of Georgia, before turning professional, with a sponsorship deal from Adidas.[2]
Career
At the 2010 World Junior Championships in Athletics, Shaunae Miller became the first Bahamian to win the 400m event at the IAAF World U20 Championships, she repeated this success the following year at the 2011 World Youth Championships in Athletics, where Miller became the first Bahamian to win the 400m event at the IAAF World U18 Championships. Miller signed a letter of intent with the University of Georgia.[7] She competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics and was the flag-bearer for the Bahamas at the 2016 Summer Olympics.[8] At the 2012 Olympics, she did not finish her heat.
In 2016, Miller won the Prefontaine Classic 400m event.[9]
At the 2016 Olympics she won the Gold medal in the 400 meters, diving across the line to beat Allyson Felix by 0.07 seconds in a personal best time of 49.44 seconds.[10][11]
At the Prefontaine Classic 2017 in Eugene Oregon, Shaunae Miller-Uibo became the first Bahamian woman to run under 22 seconds in the 200m, by breaking her own national record of 22.05, she set a new Bahamian national record of 21.91.[12]
On 4 June 2017, Shaunae Miller-Uibo set the 200 metres straight world record with a wind legal time of 21.76. The previous record was 22.55 set by Allyson Felix on 16 May 2010 in Manchester.[1]
At the 2017 World Championships she won the bronze medal in the 200 metres race. She finished fourth in the 400 metres event.
Personal Life
Miller married her college sweetheart, Estonian decathlete, Maicel Uibo in 2017.[13]
