Security Intelligence Far East

Security Intelligence Far East (SIFE) was a British intelligence organization created in 1946 as a Far East variant of SIME, as part of its formation it absorbed its forerunner an organisation known as Combined Intelligence Far East (CIFE) which had been based in Ceylon serving British military commanders during the Second World War. CIFE had moved to India and then Ceylon after the Japanese overran Hong Kong and Singapore[1]. It was based in British-controlled Singapore and established by Colonel Cyril Egerton Dixon, a career MI5 officer with a great deal of war time counter intelligence experience in Britain and India[2][3][4][5]. SIFE (like SIME) was also a MI5 controlled organisation, with military, MI6 and colonial police participation[6][7]. SIFE had an outstation with a resident Defence Liaison Officer (DLO) based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaya[8][9]. There are records of seven SIFE heads after Colonel Dixon[10][11]:

SIFE was disbanded in 1962, as British military commitments in Singapore and Malaysia reduced[13] and the birth of an independent Malaysia approached, which Singapore was initially part of.
