Biography

Metzger was born in Trenton, New Jersey and began playing guitar in his teens. He was raised in Lambertville, New Jersey and was the only child of two social workers. In the late nineties he was overheard playing in a coffee shop in Princeton, New Jersey where he was playing with his noise/groove based trio F-Hole by Phish frontman Trey Anastasio and lyricist Tom Marshall (singer) and was invited to join Marshall's newly formed Amfibian on lead guitar, which toured extensively and gave Metzger his first nationwide exposure. In 2001 he moved to New York City and began playing around the city, becoming a fixture at many now defunct venues such as The Knitting Factory, CBGB, and Wetlands Preserve. He spent much of the early 2000s touring nationally with his band RANA. [1]

He has performed at music festivals worldwide, including The Montreux Jazz Festival (Switzerland), The Newport Folk Festival, Lockn, The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, Bonaroo, as well as famous and historic venues worldwide; Central Park Summer Stage, The Fillmore San Francisco, Ancient Belgique (Brussels, Belgium), The Blue Note (New York,) The Ryman Auditorium, Red Rocks Amphitheater, The Fox Theatre Oakland, Lincoln Center, and The Capitol Theatre.[2]

In late 2005, he briefly left the east coast to join the west coast band Particle (band). While this collaboration lasted less than a year he does appear on the bands DVD 'Transformations' which also features Robby Krieger of the The Doors, and Joe Satriani.[3]

In 2008/2009, he was a member of the Gene Ween Band

In December 2015 Scott was featured in Vintage Guitar (magazine)[4]

In 2016, he appeared on Cameron Crowe's Showtime Network series 'Roadies' finale playing a duet with Nicole Atkins.[5]

In 2017 Scott played Jerry Garcia's guitar "Wolf" at Brooklyn Bowl in New York City where the guitar was auctioned off for $1.9 million dollars to benefit the Southern Poverty Law Center
