Derek Anderson Scott Land |
SLANDER is an American DJ duo consisting of Derek Anderson and Scott Land based in Los Angeles.[1][2][3] They are best known for their unique sound and subgenre "heaven trap".[4]
Early life
Anderson and Land met at their fraternity in University of California, Irvine.[2][5][6] They later went to and graduated from Icon Collective, a music production school together with NGHTMRE.[7] Anderson said: "My relationship with Tyler (NGHTMRE) came out of nowhere when we were put in the same classroom at Icon Collective together."[8] They initially played gigs for their college friends and at local venues. The name Slander was combined from the duo's real names: "S(cott) Land" and "Ander(son)". They have performed at EDC (Las Vegas, Orlando and Mexico), Nocturnal Wonderland, Electric Zoo and Sun City Music Festival.[9][10][11]
Career
2014: We Like to Party
Slander's remix of Showtek's song "We Like to Party" had surpassed 4 million plays on SoundCloud. It was also credited as Slander's rise to success and popularity.[12] They exchanged their remix with NGHTMRE's before combining them in a studio at Icon Collective.[2] Their remix of Above & Beyond's "Love Is Not Enough" was described as pure "heaven trap", a trap-trance combination genre pioneered by Slander.[13][14] They collaborated with NGHTMRE for a single titled "Ascensions".[15][16][17][18][19] A long-term residency deal was signed by Slander with XS Las Vegas.[20] In December 2014, they released "Vanguard" as a single.[21][22][23][24][25] They remixed Arty's "Up All Night",[26][27][28] Gorgon City's "Here For You"[29][30][31] and Sam F's "When Will the Bass Drop".[32][33][34]
2015: NGHTMRE collaborations
They released an EP titled "Nuclear Bonds" together with NGHTMRE on Diplo's record label Mad Decent.[35][36][37][38][39] A single titled "Gud Vibrations" from the EP was released.[40] Slander's song "Love Again" featuring WAVZ was released as a free download.[41] They released "You" as a single with frequent-collaborator NGHTMRE.[42][43][44] Two more Slander-NGHTMRE collaborations titled "Power"[45][46][47] and "Warning"[48][49][50] were released. They were signed as residents of Wynn Resorts for 2015.[51] GTA's "Red Lips" was remixed by Slander and NGHTMRE.[52][53][54]
2016: Duality
Slander released the song "After All" as a collaboration with Yookie and Jinzo.[55][56][57][58] It was released through the British record label Never Say Die Records.[59][60][61][62] They also went on tour with NGHTMRE.[63][64][65][66] It was as part of the "Gud Vibrations" North American tour.[67][68][69] They performed at Tomorrowland 2016 alongside NGHTMRE and SNAILS.[70] Their nine-song EP titled "Duality" featured originals and remixes of the songs "Dead" and "Love Again".[71][72][73] It was released on November 18, 2016, through Mad Decent.[74][75][76] They later collaborated with Adam K, Matthew Steeper and Haliene.[77][78][79] They released "Breathe" as a single.[80][81][82] They remixed Jack Ü's song "Mind".[83][84][85][86][87] Kill The Noise's "Kill It 4 The Kids" was remixed by Slander.[88][89][90][91]
2017–present: Drop It
Slander collaborated with Basstrick.[92][93][94][95] They released "Drop It" as a single.[96][97][98][99] They launched a weekly radio show called "Gud Vibrations Radio" with NGHTMRE on SiriusXM.[100]
