School of Maritime Sciences (Escola do Mar) are one of five campuses of the University of Cape Verde. It is located in the suburb of Ribeira Julião south of Mindelo in the island of São Vicente, Cape Verde.
History
The school was founded as Centro de Formação Náutica (CFN - Nautical Formation Centre) on June 19, 1982, it is located in Mindelo. On October 21, 1996, it became a part of ISECMAR under the decree 40/96.[1] When it became a part of the University of Cape Verde, the School of Maritime Sciences replaced ISECMAR.
It became part of the University of Cape Verde On October 21, 2006.[2] It was no longer known as ISECMAR (Instituto Superior de Engenharias e Ciências do Mar, High Institute of Marine Engineering and Sciences) on October 9, 2008 under a decree[2] and fully integrated into the University of Cape Verde.
It formed the whole of Africa's westernmost university until 2010 when Universidade do Mindelo opened and became the westernmost in the whole of Africa
