Scacciata

Scacciata can be any of several types of Sicilian dishes.

One haute cuisine version is a provolone cheese-filled pastry in a bread dough pie crust.[1] The simpler peasant version is much more like a calzone and is a pizza dough crust folded over and filled with either spinach, broccoli, potatoes and onions, possibly sausage, and a small amount of tomato sauce draped over the crust.

Due to immigration patterns of the late 19th Century and early 20th, scacciata is a local delicacy found in Melilli, Sicily, Italy and Middletown, Connecticut, USA.
