Sara Hurley

Colonel Sara Jane Hurley (née Skinner; born 1966) is the Chief Dental Officer (England).

Early life

She qualified from the University of Bristol Dental School in 1988 with a BDS.

Career

Royal Army Dental Corps

She was commissioned into the Royal Army Dental Corps (RADC).[1] She gained an MSc in Dental Public Health in 2004 from University College London (UCL). She became the Chief Dental Officer for the Army.

Chief Dental Officer

She was appointed as Chief Dental Officer for NHS England in August 2015.[2]

She has received criticism for describing the NHS 111 service as "fabulous", despite claims patients were unable to secure NHS appointments and were resorting to 'DIY' dentistry.[3]

Personal life

She married Timothy Hurley in August 1994 in Brecknockshire. She lives in the Borough of Waverley near the Surrey Hills AONB, in south-west Surrey.
