Sanya Kroytor

Sanya Kroytor (Hebrew: סניה קרויטור, Russian: Саня Кройтор, full name: Alexander Emilevich Kroytor; born April 17, 1971) is a Russian-Israeli violinist.

Biography

Kroytor was born in Kishinev in 1971. His father, Emil Kroytor, was a native of Cahul. At the age of seven, Kroytor studied classical violin in the music school of Kishinev. In 1986 he was accepted to college to study classical music, folklore and composition. During his studies he participated in classical music competitions across Moldova, he appeared on television and theater, and worked with various bands. His father was a well-known accordionist in the former USSR, and Kroytor participated in his father's orchestra. While still at school, Kroytor often performed abroad, including concerts in Finland, France, Bulgaria and Romania.

At the end of 1992, Kroytor immigrated to Israel. He worked for several months with bandleader Miki Gavrielov, which led to concerts, recordings and television appearances. Since then, Kroytor has appeared on several television shows with hosts such as Dan Shilon, Eli Yatzpan and Shimon Parnas, performing with many artists, including Noa, David D'Or, Shlomi Shabat, Dudu Fisher, Rita, Sarit Hadad, Alabina, and others.

In 2003 Kroytor formed his own band, with which he plays internationally as solo violinist. He has participated in festivals such as Klezmer Music Poland, Estonia Yiddish, Jewish Music Toronto, and WOMAD of Australia, New-Zealand, England and Spain.

Kroytor currently lives and works in Israel. He has produced a number of albums, and is a laureate of several competitions, including the Fishman Competition and Man of the Year 2007 by Israel Plus.[1]
