Salem is the most populous town in Montserrat. It is near Woodlands, Cork Hill and Old Towne in the north of the island. The island's only secondary school, Montserrat Secondary School is in Salem.
Salem was evacuated after the 1997 volcanic eruptions on the island but has since been resettled.
