Shakthi Vasudevan is a Tamil film actor. He is the son of director P. Vasu and began his career in his father's films as a child artist.[2]

Career

Vasudevan was featured as a child artist in his father's successful Chinna Thambi in 1991, portraying the younger version of the character played by Prabhu. He went on to star in Nadigan featuring Sathyaraj.

In 2007, he returned in the lead role in Thottal Poo Malarum again directed by his father P. Vasu; however, the film was average at the box-office. Since then he has featured in the romcom Mahesh Saranya Matrum Palar, another unsuccessful film. Vasudevan appeared in a supporting role in Ninaithale Inikkum where his role was appreciated by critics, and the film managed to break even.

His next film Aattanayagan, which released in December 2010, received highly negative review while the following films Vanjikottai Vaaliban, Kallachiripazhaga were shelved midway. His next release was Etho Seithai Ennai in 2012, was a box office office bomb.

Following a four years hiatus, his next film, Vasudevan returned with a new screen name Sakthivel Vasu in Tharkappu, which released in 2016. The film is directed by RP Ravi with music and cinematography by Failzal and Jones Anand respectively. The script is based on real incidents in Tamil Nadu.

The same year, he made his Kannada debut in his father's direction flick Shivalinga, where he plays a ghost. He reprised the same role in Tamil, again under his father's direction. He is currently a contestant in the Bigg Boss Tamil 1 reality show hosted by Kamal Haasan in Star Vijay.[3]

Personal life

Sakthi was born to film director P. Vasu and Shanthi. He also has a sister, Abhirami. His grandfather Peethambaram was a popular make-up artist for M. G. Ramachandran.[4] Sakthi's cousin Gautham and uncle Vimalkumar made their debut as writer and director with the film 7 Naatkal.[5] Sakthi got engaged to Smrithi, a B.Com graduate from Stella Maris College, Chennai. The engagement ceremony was held at a hotel in Chennai on 5 June 2011. The wedding took place on 31 October 2011, in Mayor Ramanathan Hall in Chennai.[6]
