Sainthia (community development block) (Bengali: সাঁইথিয়া সমষ্টি উন্নয়ন ব্লক) is an administrative division in Suri Sadar subdivision of Birbhum district in the Indian state of West Bengal. Sainthia and Panrui police stations serve this block. Headquarters of this block is at Ahmedpur. Ahmedpur is an urban area in this block.[1][2]

Ahmedpur is located at 23°49′38″N 87°42′07″E / 23.8273°N 87.7019°E / 23.8273; 87.7019.

Sainthia community development block has an area of 301.59  km2.[2]

Gram panchayats

Gram panchayats of Sainthia block/panchayat samiti are: Ahmedpur, Amarpur, Banogram, Bhromorkol, Deriapur, Fulur, Harisara, Hatora, Mathapalsa, Panrui Sangra and Srinidhipur.[3]

Demographics

As per 2001 census, Sainthia block had a total population of 176,124, out of which 90,434 were males and 85,690 were females. Sainthia block registered a population growth of 13.55 per cent during the 1991-2001 decade. Decadal growth for Birbhum district was 17.88 per cent.[2]Decadal growth in West Bengal was 17.84 per cent.[4]

Scheduled castes at 62,307 formed around one-third the population. Scheduled tribes numbered 21,291.[5]

Literacy

As per 2001 census, Sainthia block had a total literacy of 64.92 per cent for the 6+ age group. While male literacy was 70.40 per cent female literacy was 54.89 per cent. Birbhum district had a total literacy of 61.48 per cent, male literacy being 70.89 per cent and female literacy being 51.55 per cent.[6]
