The Saifee Hospital is a hospital built in the Charni Road region of Mumbai, India. Syedna Mohammad Burhanuddin[1] dedicated the hospital to the memory of his revered father, Syedna Taher Saifuddin.[2]
The old Saifee Hospital was functioning since 1948, thereafter, the Saifee Hospital Trust decided to build a new hospital on the existing premises. Construction commenced in 2001 and the Hospital and was commissioned[1] 4 June 2005 in the presence of the erstwhile Honorable Prime minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh. The hospital features a combination of classical Arabian (with domes and arches) and contemporary (with glass curtain facades) architectural styles.[3]
It is a 253 bedded multi-specialty tertiary care hospital providing medical, surgical, diagnostic and therapeutic services. The specialties range from simple Day-care procedures to complex Cardiac surgery and acute care emergency medicine. There are 37 beds Critical Care Units, 4 beds High Dependency Unit for critical patients, 9 State of the art Operating Theatre suites with International Infection Control Protocols. The hospital also features the first LASIK suite (for advanced laser eye surgery) to be established in India.[4][5] A recent addition is a highly advanced Robotic Surgical System to facilitate the surgeon in performing complex surgery using a minimally invasive approach.
In the aftermath of the 2011 Mumbai bombings, Saifee hospital provided free treatment to victims and affected people of the bomb blast[6]
