Plot
Saloni is a 24-year-old woman who has a dark complexion. The story shows how Saloni's courage and strength lets her move beyond her complexion and search for her own identity. The tagline "Saloni ka Safar" means "Saloni's Journey" in English.
At the beginning of the story, Saloni's mother treats Saloni's sister Shubra and brother Samar better than Saloni because they have fair skin. Because of her complexion, Saloni goes through a lots of tribulation to achieve her mother's love.
As time goes by, Saloni gets married to a rich man, Nahar Singh, who was supposed to be engaged to Shubra, but chose Saloni instead because of her maturity. Because of this, Shubra hates Saloni even more. As time passes, Shubhra falls in love with a man named Karan, who wants to take revenge on her because she had once slapped him in front of all of his friends at school.
Saloni knows Karan's intentions and tries to warn Shubra, but Karan instigates Shubra by telling her that Saloni is envious of her happiness. With the promise of marriage, he lures her to have intimate relations with him. A few days later Shubra finds out that she is pregnant. Eventually her family finds out. They are ashamed and worry that no one will marry their daughter now. Saloni is very tense about the situation. Seeing Saloni stressed out, Neel (Saloni's childhood friend), agrees to marry Shubra. However, Shubra continues seeing Karan but finally realizes that Karan only used her against her family. Having lost faith in her, Neel leaves her. Shubra ends up marrying Kunjan Pratap Singh who was earlier engaged to Saloni.
At Saloni's in-laws' house, her husband Nahar's aunt Kuki Kaki, comes to stay with them. She wants to break Nahar and Saloni's relationship because he didn't marry the girl of her choice. In time it is revealed that Nahar was earlier married to a girl name Chandini, whom he allegedly killed because she wanted to marry Nahar's older brother Brijesh. As Saloni gets involved in the family members' lives, she reveals that Kuki Kaki killed Chandini and blamed Nahar for it.
Tara (Saloni's sister-in-law) cannot conceive so her sister Urvashi comes as a surrogate mother; when it comes to give the child to Tara and Brijesh, she runs away with the baby because she wants to marry Brijesh. Neel comes back and wants to obtain his childhood love Saloni. He hires a guy named Yug to create a rift in Saloni and Nahar's relationship. He makes Nahar think that Saloni is having an affair with Yug. Nahar also comes under Neel's target, and he throws Saloni out until the misunderstanding clears up.
As the story goes through many phases, Abhi, the son of Saloni's aunt Manno Bhabhi comes. After a while it is discovered that he is a traitor and not really her son. He marries Nahar's sister Pia and rapes her. Finally he is thrown out. Then Urvashi returns and blackmails Saloni, who is pregnant. She tells Saloni that she would return Tara and Brijesh their baby if Saloni leaves Nahar's life without telling anyone. As Saloni sees Tara crying for her baby everyday, Saloni agrees to Urvashi's demand. To make sure Tara's baby is returned, Saloni makes the family hate her and is thrown out. But Urvashi deceives Saloni and doesn't give the baby back. When Saloni goes to meet Urvashi, Nahar's older sister Aditi, follows her and finds out the truth. She apologizes and wants to take Saloni back to the house. But, Urvashi tampres with her car's brakes and Aditi gets killed while Saloni loses her memory.
Now Saloni gets admitted to Nishi's (Neel's fiancé's) hospital, and a changed Neel, with Dr. Nishi's help brings her back to her senses. She has memory loss, but Nahar finds her and everything goes back to being okay. Urvashi has married Nahar's uncle and says if they tell him about her truth, she will kill the child. Urvashi does not know that Saloni is alive. The family fools her into thinking that Saloni is Chirmi and bring her back into the house, where they plan revenge. Urvashi finds out, and then the baby is found and Urvashi is sent to jail.
Saloni tells everyone that it would not have been easy exposing Urvashi if Kshitij (Nahar's cousin) wouldn't have helped them. Saloni finds out she has a half-sister named Kalika. Kalika swaps Saloni's baby with a dead baby and Saloni and Nahar end up adopting a baby named Shweta. Urvashi plots to kill Nahar with the help of Nahar's childhood friend Varun who is a doctor. Varun tells Nahar that Nahar is ill doesn't have much time left to live and gives him some medicine which is actually poison to kill Nahar. Saloni learns of Nahar's illness and is heartbroken. Nahar dies by drowning himself in the river and Saloni doesn't inform the family about Nahar's death. Saloni brings his look alike to the house so the family won't go through pain. Before dying, Urvashi reveals to Saloni that Sawri is her real daughter. Saloni confesses that Nahar had died and the family disowns her.
A generation leap takes place and Sawri is still believed to be the servant's daughter. Bhabo decides to get Shweta married to Aman, but after finding out about his true colours the wedding is called off. Rajveer and Shweta fall in love, while his older brother Daksh has feelings for Sawri. After saving Aditya's life Tara apologizes to Sawri for the way she treated her. Saloni is revealed to be the Dhaasa for Daksh and Rajveer. Guruma reveals the truth to the family stating that the reason Saloni brought the swami to the house was because of Bhabo's health and says that despite it she never shared any relationship with Amrit and if they had something to hide they would never have revealed the truth, and also states that Sawri is Nahar and Saloni's real daughter. The family feels guilty and they apologies to Sawri. Saloni finally forgives the family and returns home. Kaveri realizes her mistakes and asks for forgiveness. Daksh confesses his love to Sawri and they agree to marry. Saloni's daughters get married and she blesses them with a happy married life.
