SC Farense de Fonte Filipe

Sporting Clube de Farense de Fonte Filipe (Capeverdean Crioulo, ALUPEC or ALUPEK: Sporting Klubi di Farensi di Fonti Filipi) is a football club that had plays in the São Vicente Island League in Cape Verde and currently plays at the São Vicente Second Division. It is based in the subdivision of Fonte Filipe just located north of the stadium in the southeast of the city of Mindelo in the island of São Vicente. The club area covers the northeast portion of Mindelo.

The club is a Sporting affiliate, the only one on the island and Barlavento's one of four, of which three uses the name Sporting. The name is identical to the Sporting Clube de Portugal.^[1][2] It uses the old logo including its letters (SCF) with its rim and lion, its letters are colored yellow and has a light blue rim which is not Sporting's color. Its logo shape is different and depicts the main part of Fonte Filipe in the logo. The common short form of the club name is not Sporting Farense de Fonte Filipe but Farense de Fonte Filipe, it is locally Farense. It is unrelated to the Portuguese club SC Farense and is no affiliate. Outside the island, the club name is titled Farense de Fonte Filipe.

History

The club first played in the regional competitions in 2008 and played in its inaugural Second Division. The club won the silver championship in 2014. After seven seasons in the Second Division, the club competed into the Premier Division for the first time in 2015. Until that time, Farense was one of three clubs who competed only in the Second Division.

Their first ever Premier Division match on January 16 was against Salamansa, a club who previoulsly participated with and was an 0-2 loss. On February 20, they made their first ever Premier Division win as they defeated Falcões do Norte as they won 1-0. Farense Fonte Filipe's first ever draw at the division was on February 27 who made a single goal each with Batuque. Farense did the unexpected as they defeated the island's second most popular club Derby on March 25 and won 0-2. Farense made the club's highest scoring match in the division as they defeated Amarante, one of the five historic clubs of the island and kicked that club into the Second Division in the following season, where Farense was, it was also the club's last win. The club finished which was their greatest position and was inside the level for a division decisional match. In May, Farense faced GS Castilho, second in the Second Division, the first leg was a draw, Farense won the second leg 1-2 and prevented the island's second oldest club from returning into the Premier Division. Farense's success was a bit better for the 2016-17 season, the first two matches were losses. Farense made the season's first win as they defeated Salamansa 3-0 on January 29. Their next win was on February 26 and defeated Falcões do Norte. Farense played a match that was originally for January 14, it was played on March 4 and was another victory over the mighty Derby at the division, the score was 2-1. The last win of the season was another victory over Salamansa and was 0-1. Farense played a match against Académica do Mindelo on March 19 and the original result was 1-1, on April 28, as that club fielded a fake goalkeeper, Farense defeated Académica Mindelo for the first and only time with 0-3 awarded by the FCF. Farense finished a position that was never achieved, fifth place with 18 points, 5 wins and 17 goals scored.
