Runner3 is an upcoming rhythm platformer video game developed by Choice Provisions. The game is part of the Bit.Trip which follows the character Commander Video. The game is scheduled to be released in the latter half of 2017 on the Nintendo Switch console.

Gameplay

Runner3 is an rhythm platformer video game in which players take control of Commander Video, protagonist of the Bit.Trip series.[1] Commander Video runs forward automatically and the player controls actions such as jumping, sliding, and kicking to overcome obstacles.[2] New mechanics such as riding vehicles and the ability to double jump have been introduced in this instalment. The game features a similar art style to its predecessor Runner2.[3] While previous Runner games featured different routes through a level by jumping on vertical platforms, Runner3 has stages with alternate paths that branch off into the background. Each level has collectable items such as gold bars and blue gems. The gold bars increases the player's score. Blue gems can be collected only once; they are used to unlock cosmetic items. The game features side-quests in which Commander Video stops to interact with non-playable characters.[2]

Development

Runner 3 is being developed by video game development studio Choice Provisions. One focal of Runner3's design was creating a rewarding and enjoyable experience for playing on any difficult. Choice Provisions' co-founder Alex Neuse emphasised that many games rewarded only hardcore players and offered a lesser experience for playing on lower difficulties.[1]

Voice actor Charles Martinet will reprise his narration role in Runner3.[3]

Release

Runner3 was announced in September 2016.[1] In February 2017, it was revealed that Runner3 would launch on the Nintendo Switch console in the latter half of 2017.[4]
