In the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy role-playing game, the rot grub is a worm-like creature found in heaps of offal or dung.
Publication history
The rot grub first appeared in first edition in the original Monster Manual (1977).[1] The rot grub was further detailed in Dragon #122 (June 1987) in the article "The Ecology of the Rot Grub".
The rot grub appeared in the second edition in the Monstrous Compendium Volume Two (1989)[2] and reprinted in the Monstrous Manual (1993) under the "worm" entry.[3]
The rot grub and rot grub swarm appeared in third edition in Dungeonscape (2007).
The rot grub appeared in the fourth edition in Monster Manual 3 (2010).[4]
The rot grub appeared in the fifth edition in Volo's Guide to Monsters as Swarm of Rot Grubs.
Description
Rot grubs will viciously burrow into living flesh until they reach the heart and kill their host.
