Roman Romanov (Ukrainian: Роман Романов; born 12 November 1972, Potsdam, East Germany) is a businessman, politician, leader of "Ukroboronprom" since 4 July 2014.

Biography

Roman Romanov was born on the 12th of November, 1972 in a military family of Anatoly Romanov and Tamara Romanova in Potsdam, East Germany. Married to Lyudmila Romanova. He has a daughter Anastasia Romanova.

Education

Roman Romanov studied at Kherson State Pedagogical Institute from 1990 till 1995. He received a bachelor's degree in the specialty Physics and Computer Science and a master’s degree in Information Technology specialty. Romanov also studied at the International Institute of Management (MIM-Kyiv) where he received MBA Senior Executive degree (traineeship in Hong Kong). In October 2016, Romanov received a diploma of Defense Acquisition University. The head of “Ukroboronprom” studied there by invitation of the Pentagon.

Career

In 2001, he founded an automotive company which has gradually grown under his leadership and became a holding for automobiles sale and service of more than 10 car brands in a number of Ukrainian cities. Romanov worked as a private partner with international companies like Hyundai, Kia, Volkswagen, BMW, Renault, Bosch, Bombardier, Great Wall, JAC, and have conducted numerous visits to their headquarters and production sites.

Romanov founded a construction company where he remained on the supervisory board after he stepped down from the operational management. He has an extensive experience in project management, farseeing leadership, new organizational models implementing, innovations development, steering global companies out of crisis and high-growth strategy.

Being the person with active social stance, Romanov has been a deputy of city council and a deputy of region council during his career.

In July 2014, Romanov was invited by the President of Ukraine to lead one of the largest enterprises of Ukraine – “Ukroboronprom”.

It unites more than 130 enterprises in 5 major defense industry sectors, particularly in armament and military equipment development and manufacture, scientific research and export-import operations. “Ukroboronprom” has 31 design bureaus and research institutes, engaged in development, design and research, enabling State Concern to implement new solutions and innovations.

Management of "Ukroboronprom"

The management team of “Ukroboronprom” headed by Romanov made the State Concern profitable for the first time in a long period. In 2016, net income of “Ukroboronprom” amounted to more than 28,3 bln UAH[1], and export volume grew up to 25%[2] due to the organization of system work with international partners[3] from about 100 countries. In 2016, Ukrainian Defense Industry Day was held[4] in NATO headquarters for the first time, and Ukrainian military-industrial complex reforming strategy was developed. State Concern was first to introduce a system of e-procurement among industrial giants of Ukraine and saved approximately 1 bln UAH within 2 years.
