Romanian Top 100
The Romanian Top 100 was an airplay–based and the national singles chart of Romania until 2012. Found in 1996, it was a ranking based on the compilation of charts submitted by local Romanian radio stations. The Romanian Top 100 was published weekly and was also announced during a radio show starting with 1998. Compilance was first handled by Body M Production A-V, followed by Media Forest and Nielsen. In the 2010s, the chart was premierly announced during a podcast on Kiss FM, ceasing its publication in February 2012. It was since then replaced with the Airplay 100. Along with various other records, Australian singer Kylie Minogue and Colombian performer Shakira have been credited as the most successful artists in the Romanian Top 100 chart history, with each having six number one singles.
History and compilation
The Romanian Top 100 was found in 1996,[2] with the first year-end chart published in 1997.[3] Beginning with 1998, the chart was announced during a two-hour radio show called Romanian Top 100 Radio Show hosted by disc jockey Adi Simion and created by VentoStudio. Aired by 57 radio stations in Romania, it was originally titled Romanian Top 100 Bravo Show due to a partnership with Bravo.[4] Starting with 1999, the Romanian Top 100 was compiled by Body M Production A-V with the help of a "special software". At that time, over 110 independent radio stations in Romania were considered when compiling the chart, with each submitting their own airplay statistics.[5] The compiling process was oriented to that of the Eurochart Hot 100. The results were eventually sent to music specialists in Romania, among others.[2]
As of April 2001, the Romanian Top 100 has reached over 250 editions.[5] In 2005, the number of radio stations involved in the making of the chart rose to 120, with over 450 editions.[6] At one point, the Romanian Top 100 was published in Billboard's Music & Media magazine, but the inclusion was soon dismissed due to the publication's cancellation.[2] In the 2010s, the chart–compiled by Media Forest and Nielsen–was announced during a weekly podcast on Kiss FM by disc jockey Andreea Berghea.[7][8] In an April 2009 article, Romanian website Music Chat criticized the compilation of the chart and questioned its credibility, noting a problem in distinguishing heavy rotation from short teasers, resulting in extra counts.[8] It ceased its publication in February 2012, with its last edition on 19 February 2012.[9] It was later replaced with the Airplay 100, also compiled by Media Forest and aired as a podcast on Kiss FM hosted by Cristi Nitzu.[10]
Achievements and milestones
In a tie with Colombian performer Shakira, Australian recording artist Kylie Minogue is the most successful artist in the Romanian Top 100 history; six of her singles have topped the chart: "Can't Get You Out of My Head" in 2001,[11] "In Your Eyes" in 2002,[12], "Slow" in 2004,[13], "Red Blooded Woman" in 2004,[14] "I Believe In You" in 2005,[15] and "In My Arms" in 2008.[16]
