On Saturday, June 18, 2016, Rod Young announced to viewers of Seven News Brisbane's 6PM bulletin, that on Sunday, June 26, after 14 years of presenting the news alongside Kay McGrath, he would be leaving the Brisbane studio to take up presenting the new Gold Coast edition of Seven Local News from Monday, July 4, 2016. Kay McGrath will continue to present the weekend news solo from Saturday, July 2, 2016.

Career

Before moving to the Seven Network, Rod was the face of news in Brisbane on the ABC[1] where he began working in the late 1970s. Rod has had a distinguished career after starting in radio at station 2GO at Gosford on the New South Wales central coast. Rod was appointed the weeknight newsreader on the ABC in 1985.

In October 2002 he moved to Seven News to present beside Kay McGrath, after long serving news presenter Frank Warrick retired.

In June 2016, after presenting with Kay McGrath for 14 years on weekdays for ten years and weekends for four, Rod Young announced he would be stepping down from the Brisbane bulletin to present Seven News' new local Gold Coast bulletin from Surfers Paradise. He presents the bulletin on weeknights, with Amanda Abate anchoring the weekend bulletin.
