Robert Byng (18th-century MP)

Robert Byng (1703–1740) was the fourth son of George Byng, 1st Viscount Torrington by his wife Margaret Master. On 19 December 1734 he married Elizabeth, daughter of Jonathan Forward and by her had issue, including an eldest son, George Byng. This George, later of Wrotham Park, was the father of John Byng, 1st Earl of Strafford. Robert Byng served as Member of Parliament (MP) for Plymouth from 1728 to 1739 and as Governor of Barbados from May 1739.[1]
