Richmond Centre (corporately styled as "CF Richmond Centre" and formerly known as "Richmond Square") is a shopping mall in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada. Its street address is on No. 3 Road but it stretches as far west as Minoru Boulevard, and as far north as Westminster Highway. Richmond City Hall is immediately south of the mall.[3] By the number of stores, it is the largest mall in Richmond with 250 stores and services; it is the second largest in terms of area. It is the most frequently visited mall in Richmond, and is open on every day of the year except Christmas Day.
History
Richmond Centre mall began as Richmond Square Shopping Centre built in 1964 on part of the old Brighouse/Minoru Racetrack. Two years later in 1966, Hudson’s Bay Company announced plans for their store to be built adjacent to the Richmond Square centre. The two locations acted as separate shopping centre until 1989 when it amalgamated into one mall known today as Richmond Centre.[4] [5]
Layout
Richmond Centre mall, similar with its closest rival mall Lansdowne Centre, were mostly built on one entire level owing to its abundance of land area at the time of construction. This means most of the entire shopping centre could be reached without the need of an escalator or elevator with the only exception being the second level of the Hudson’s Bay Company portion that contains a second level as well as the recently constructed Food Court (aka Dining Terrace) section. Also of note is that a large portion of parking spaces can also be found on the roof top of the shopping centre.
